What is efy?

1 Samuel 3:4
"That the Lord called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I."
Especially for Youth (EFY) is a week-long seminar hosted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS/Mormon Church) for youth of ages 14-18. The main focus of this seminar is to foster fellowship between believers and their friends, as well as spreading the gospel and teachings of Jesus Christ.

There are three options that one may indulge in when choosing to attend this seminar:

1. Overnight
The EFY overnight program is a 5-day program that begins Monday morning and concludes early Saturday morning. The EFY sessions take place all over North America throughout the summer on various college campuses. Each session is supervised by young adults that are considered by the church to be good influences on the youth, and each session is directed by adult instructors.
A few of the activities that occur at EFY include:
  • Scripture study
  • Devotionals and firesides
  • Family home evenings
  • Dances
2. At-home
The EFY at-home program is a 5-day program like the overnight program, but the youth do not stay on the college campus. They arrive at the campus every morning, and leave for home every night by 9 PM.
3. 1-day
The 1-day EFY programs are held on Saturdays from September through April in various locations in North America. Very similar to the week-long EFY programs in the summer, these "express" EFY sessions are throughout the rest of the year to teach youth more about the Gospel as well as help them to develop friendships and bonds with youth their own age with similar beliefs.
